Sheikh Abdullah broke into tears and sobbed when correspondents met him here soon after Pandit Nehru’s death. He could not speak for a few minutes.

In a muffled voice, he said: “He is dead. I can’t meet him.” He could not control himself and retired saying, “I can’t say anything.”

Before leaving here for Rawalpindi, he will address a condolence meeting there. He will also meet President Ayub Khan tonight. He may fly back to New Delhi early tonight or tomorrow morning.

The Sheikh, who arrived here today to begin his tour of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, on receipt of the news of Pandit Nehru’s death, at once cancelled his tour of occupied Kashmir and Pakistan.

He arrived in Rawalpindi on May 24 on a fortnight’s tour of Pakistan to hold talks with Pakistani leaders to find ways and means of establishing amity and peace between India and Pakistan. The Sheikh was due to return to New Delhi on June 8. (PTI)
