Football: Ashu to lead Delhi Under-17 in Dr BC Roy Tournament

Young striker of Modern School, Ashu will lead the Delhi Under-17 (boys) team in Dr BC Roy National Championship to be held in Shillong from January 28. Goalkeeper Shubham Biswas of Nalanda Public Scholl has been named the Vice-Captain of the team by the selection committee headed by Management Committee member Hafiz Shahid.

President of Football Delhi (DSA) Shaji Prabhakaran wished the boys good luck for the upcoming tournament. While handing over the team kits to young team members Shaji said, “You are lucky 20 to qualify from the 400 boys who participated in the trials and now the onus is on you to come with flying colours and bring good name for Delhi, proud parents and yourself.” As most of the boys have to appear for board exams, the President of Football Delhi asked the boys to keep books also with them to study in their spare time so that their studies are not affected and school should feel proud that football players are equally good in studies and sports.

Bhupinder Adhikari, a member of the Selection Committee, thanked the association for providing all support for the trials which continued for about five months due to the AIFF schedule.

Delhi, Mizoram, Goa and Uttar Pradesh are in Group A of the tournament. Delhi will play its first match against Uttar Pradesh on January 28, the second match against Mizoram on January 30 and last match against Goa on February1, 2020. The squad of 20 players, two coaches, two officials, and a team physiotherapist has left for Shillong on January 23.

Ravinder Mohan Bhisht, B-Licence holder (Head Coach), Ravi Singh, D-Licence holder (Goalkeeping Coach), Sunil Dutt (Manager), Ram Singh (Assistant Manager) and Nikhil Kashyap (Physio) will travel with the team.
