Commonwealth Games: Shooter Tejaswini wins gold, Anjum takes silver  

Indian shooters Tejaswini Sawant and Anjum Moudgil have won gold and silver respectively in the Women's 50m Rifle 3 positions at the 21st Commonwealth Games (CWG) on Friday.

Tejaswini registered a new Games record 457.9 points to take the title. Anjum scored 455.7.

Seonaid McIntosh of Scotland took bronze with 444.6.

Indian athletes Neeraj Chopra, Vipin Kashana and Jinson Johnson too entered the finals of their respective events. Chopra and Kashana entered the final of the men's Javelin Throw. Johnson did well to qualify for the medal round of the men's 1,500 metre event.

Chopra hurled the javelin to a distance of 80.42 metres to take the second place in Group A of the qualification round. Kashana registered 78.88m to qualify as the third thrower in Group B.

Indian paddlers too continued their dominance, with the mixed doubles teams of Achanta Sharath Kamal and Mouma Das, and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Manika Batra entering the semi-finals here.

However, the other Indian pair of Sanil Shetty and Madhurika Patkar crashed out after suffering a narrow 2-3 loss in their quarter-final tie.

Wretsler Bajrang entered CWG final with an awe-inspiring performance to win all his bouts by technical superiority.

In a shocking turn of events, Indian athletes Rakesh Babu and KT Irfan have been sent home form the ongoing Commonwealth Games (CWG) here for breaching the 'no-needles' policy of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF). According to the CGF, needles have been found in the living quarters of these athletes in the games village. The duo have thus been sent home for suspected doping.

With 33 medals (15 gold, 8 silver and 10 bronze), India stands at the third place in the medal tally after Australia (156 medals) and England (87 medals). But will India be able to repeat it’s 2010 performance where for the first time it crossed the tally of 100 medals?
