20-year-old Indian Opener, Smriti Mandhana’s stupendous century (106 off 108) guided India to a formidable win over a hapless West Indies team in the ICC Women’s World Cup in England on Thursday. Two wickets each from Deepti Sharma, Poonam Yadav and Harmanpreet Kaur restricted West Indies to a paltry 183-8 in the allotted 50 overs. Although India lost two quick wickets in the beginning of their chase, charismatic Mandhana combined with Skipper Mithali Raj (46 off 88) to put together a 108-run stand. Mithali missed out on an opportunity to score her eighth consecutive 50, but the partnership ensured an easy win for the Indians by a virtue of seven wickets.

India will face West Indies in the third ODI at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Friday. The Virat Kohli-led side lead the five match ODI series 1-0. India looks like the firm favourites to win the encounter unless the West Indies of the old decides to show up. The first match of the series could not provide any results due to rain and India emerged victorious by a margin of 105-run in the second encounter. A win in this match will put India in the driving seat to win the tournament.

The gutsy Indian fought gallantly and lost to the 79-ranked Baghdatis 6-7, 6-3, 7-6.

Ruthless Germany joined Chile in the Confederations Cup final after thumping Mexico 4-1 in the semis. Leon Goretzka, the Scchalke midfielder, netted twice for the Germans in the opening eight minutes itself and Germany scored two more to complete a formidable victory. Timo Werner and Amin Younes put up their names on the scoring sheet as well for Germany while the only goal for Mexico was scored by Marco Fabian. Fabian stunner from 35-yards came in too late for Mexico to script a comeback. The Confederations Cup final, between Germany and Chile, is scheduled to be played on Sunday.
