Now #GoBackModi trends as PM Modi holds election rallies in Jharkhand

Amidst political tussle between BJP and Shiv-Sena-NCP-Congress over the formation of government by BJP in Maharashtra, #GoBackModi hashtag trended on Twitter during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s poll campaign visit to Jharkhand on Monday.

PM Modi was in Jharkhand on Monday to address two election campaign rallies in Daltonganj and Gumla ahead of assembly elections which are scheduled to be held from November 30 onwards.

Jharkhand, currently ruled by BJP under the chief ministership of Raghubar Das, became the fourth state where #GoBackModi trend went viral on social media after Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra in last one year when PM Modi visited those states for political campaigns.

Midhum K Madhu tweeted: “Why #GoBackModi is trending again? Is he visiting Tamil Nadu or Kerala?

Oh no. It is trending from Jharkhand. It seems people are realising Modi’s and Shah’s hunger of power after #MahaPoliticalTwist.”

Another Twitter user Manish wrote: “Awaken Jharkahand is boycotting Modi and BJP. This is sign of change. #GoBackModi is still trending on top on Twitter.”

Anguish over Tribal issues

Hansraj Meena, founder of Tribal Army tweeted: “Dear comrades! Today Prime Minister @narendramodi ji, will be campaigning for Assembly polls in two rallies in Daltonganj and Gumla. The Swindler has again come to rob Adivasis. We will not allow this. We appeal to run #GoBackModi against him since 7 am.”

While Sushmita tweeted: “The people of Jharkhand have faced the worst repression with 1000 people being charged with sedition for demanding what’s theirs, the land & forests. One development project after another is being slowly given away to big industries. No wonder #GoBackModi is trending.

The police had allegedly filed sedition cases against more than 10,000 unknown people in Khunti district in 2017 and 2018 when Adivasi villages erected stone monoliths with engravings of the Fifth Schedule of the Indian Constitution related to the special autonomy granted to Tribals.

Rubbishing the recent media reports over the issue, on Thursday (November 21) Jharkhand police called them “totally incorrect” and “hugely inflated”. CM Raghubar Das also called the reports “wrong” and said that the government took “stern action against those indulging in anti-national activities”.

Reacting over the statements of state police and CM, civil rights group— Jharkhand Janadhikar Mahasabha accused the state BJP government of spreading misinformation to downplay the alleged repression of thousands of Adivasis in Pathalgadi villages, who have been facing sedition charges for a long time.

With a large tribal population (around 27 percent) in the state, Raghubar Das government has been facing severe criticism from Tribals and rights activists over diluting land laws. Gumla district where PM Modi held election rally on Monday, has the highest proportion of STs (68.4 per cent).

The BJP had won 42 seats in the 2014 state polls. The five phases poll in 81-member Jharkhand Assembly will be held from November 30 to December 20. The counting of votes will take place on December 23.
