Six Border Security Force (BSF) personnel suffered injuries when a 51mm mortar fell short of its target at the forces' firing range in Kishangarh leading to a blast of the ammunition. The incident took place at about 8:30 am near Kishangarh in Rajasthan along the Indo-Pak border, while the troops were participating in a firing exercise.


According to senior officials, one of the critically injured personnel will be air evacuated to a hospital in Jodhpur while others are being treated locally. This is the second such incident in Kishangarh this year after four personnel were injured in similar circumstances in March.


Six men of the paramilitary were injured in similar circumstances during a mortar firing exercise at its centre in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh in March this year.

3 dead, 100 ill after feasting on pork

At least three persons, including a minor, have died and more than 100 others were taken ill after consuming pork and rice at a religious feast in Meghalaya's Ri Bhoi district on Sunday evening. The incident is being suspected as a case of food poisoning.


Joint Commissioner of Food Safety SN Sangma said a team of food safety officers were rushed to the village to collect food samples, which caused the food poisoning affecting a majority of the population at the village.


According to Ri-Bhoi district medical and health officer Bareh P Lamin, hundreds of people of Nongkya village who enjoyed the feast after a church service at the village on Sunday, many villagers were taken to hospitals in Shillong. Over 30 patients were admitted in the Community Health Centre (CHC) and 25 were admitted at the Nongpoh CHC.


The food safety officers have collected food samples and the same will be sent for testing at the Guwahati-based Public Health Laboratory at the earliest as per the statement of Medical and Health Officer Lamin.

Two children drown in pond

Two children drowned in Jalore district while taking a bath in a pond, police said on Tuesday.

The children—Veeraram alias Vikram Meghwal (11) and Ishwar Meghwal (10)—drowned in the pond in Padrali village on Monday. The bodies have been handed over to family members following postmortem.

IAS officer drowns while trying to save friend


A 30-year-old IAS officer, Ashish Dahiya, lost his life when he was trying to save a lady officer who had accidentally fallen into the pool of the Foreign Service Institute in Ber Sarai on Tuesday morning. The deceased, Ashish Dahiya, was a resident of Sonipat, Haryana and was attending a poolside party with friends. During the party, they decided to go for a swim in the pool located at the club.


Considering the statements of the eyewitnesses, the police said that a lady officer accidentally fell into the pool and the officers, including Dahiya, jumped in to rescue her. Later, the lady was pulled out safe but the IAS officer’s body was found floating in the pool. According to the police, he was rushed to the Fortis Hospital where he was declared brought dead.
