Hours after a CRPF jawan followed a BSF jawan in airing grievances on social media, a video was uploaded of a retired, unnamed “BSF inspector” on Thursday afternoon on YouTube, in support of the BSF jawan Tej Bahadur Yadav, who had hit the headlines on Monday after complaining of poor and inadequate food given to jawans on the border.

Dressed up in BSF uniform—which he claimed to have donned again 10 years after he was compelled to resign, he said he was punished for being honest.

“I too had opposed ration scam going on in my unit—and dared to disagree with my senior officer,” he said, claiming that the worries of the jawans extend to several other issues. “I’ve myself served on borders in Jammu and Kashmir. Only half of the ration meant for jawans reach high altitude areas..... a jawan hardly gets to sleep for three hours in border areas. He often has to perform duties for as long as 18 hours. And he has to take bath, wash his clothes, maintain BOP (border outpost) and do several other chores.”

“Ever wondered: why jawans are seen sleeping in the space outside toilets in trains while travelling home on leave? The reason is leave plans remain on paper only and never get implemented. Sycophancy and gratification remain the sole criterion for sanctioning leave. Honest and upright jawans are harassed in every possible way,” he alleges, pointing out several ills plaguing paramilitary forces.

“All of you must have seen the Retreat at the Wagah Border. But do you know that the ceremonial dresses worn by the jawans in the parade are purchased by jawans themselves at their own expense?”, he asks before alleging, “when officers visit company or unit headquarters, it becomes the responsibility of jawans to arrange for his drinks, cigarettes and chicken....In the name of welfare, a lot of money is provided for families of jawans but everything gets swindled by officers.”

“Those who are attached with senior officers as their orderlies have to do all the menial jobs (like domestic servant) for officers and if a jawan refuses, he is harassed psychologically and in every possible way. Officers also swindle money during the purchase of weapons and other things,” he claimed, adding that “the reason why so many BSF personnel and lower rank officers have been proceeding on voluntary retirement these days is because of the dictatorial attitude of senior officers.”

“But BSF has many good officers especially those who return from SPG (Special Protection Group) and they don’t seem to harbour any aversion to jawans, ” he concludes.

National Herald was not able to independently verify the identity of the “BSF inspector” and the authenticity of the claims.
