Producer Ekta Kapoor says no matter how much the "intellectuals" look down upon the daily soaps, small screen has done more for women empowerment than movies.

Her shows like Hum Paanch chronicled five oddball sisters taking up challenges and emerging victorious, followed by the immensely popular Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki and Kasauti Zindagi Kay which showed women participating in household decisions.
