Patient dies as Haryana BJP leader holds up ambulance for 30 mins

While Haryana BJP president Subhash Barala has offered to resign after coming under fire for his son’s alleged involvement in stalking and harassing Varnika Kundu, another state BJP leader today got embroiled in another major controversy.

Fatehabad BJP municipal council chief, Darshan Nagpal, allegedly stopped an ambulance for about half an hour that led to the death of a patient onboard on Monday.

The complainant, Arun Kumar, has alleged that he was taking his uncle, Naveen Kumar, to a cardiologist when their ambulance hit the car of Nagpal from the rear, Hindustan Times reported.

“Nagpal stopped the ambulance near the Lal Batti Chowk in Hisar and squabbled with the ambulance driver over compensation for more than 30 minutes,” the report says, quoting Kumar who alleged that his uncle died before he could be attended to by doctors due to this delay.

Kumar told The Tribune, “We kept pleading with Nagpal to allow my uncle to be shifted to the hospital since his condition was serious, but he did not relent and in the process wasted a precious over half-an-hour when my uncle could have got emergency care. He died before he could be attended to by the doctors.”

Nagpal, however, refuted the allegation, saying that he was ready to cooperate with the police. The report quotes him: “The ambulance driver hit my car from the rear near the old bus stand. The driver stopped his vehicle to check it, but as there was a patient inside, we asked him to leave.”

Arun alleged that despite a formal complaint, the police were dilly-dallying in registering an FIR and were rather pressuring Arun and his co-complainant to enter into a compromise with Nagpal, according to The Tribune report.

Police are reportedly investigating the matter and no case has been registered so far.
