Lok Sabha did actually censor BJD MP’s speech

So, did Lok Sabha censor parts of BJD MP Tathagata Satpathy’s speech in Parliament? Newslaundry reported that it did not while reacting to the following report on nationalheraldindia.com : You can see the Newslaundry link here.

The NH report had pointed out that while the Lok Sabha Secretariat had retained the speech in its entirety on Youtube, it had dropped some portions of the speech in which the MP had criticised the BJP and its ideology.

The Newslaundry report points out that while NH had picked up the anomaly from the ‘synopsis’ carried on the Lok Sabha website, the section on verbatim debate (uncorrected) carried the MP’s speech in full. Yes, that way the speech was not taken off from the Lok Sabha website.

But the Newslaundry report appears to have missed the point that the section on the Verbatim debate (in Uncorrected debate section) is “not for publication”. In other words, the media cannot use that to inform people. Since most people come to know about the happenings in a Parliament session through the media, this is a crafty way of censoring parts of the speech, we concede.

The point the NH report had made was that in the synopsis, the parts found inconvenient to the ruling party had been dropped. We stand by our assertion.
