The slump in domestic automobile sector continued unabated in August as the overall sectoral off-take plunged 23.55%.
The industry which is suffering from high GST rate and lack of adequate liquidity had recorded a slump of 18.71% in July, the highest monthly sales de-growth in the last 19 years.
On Monday, data furnished by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), showed that total sales of the Indian automobile sector declined by 23.55% during July to 1,821,490 units, from 2,382,436 units sold during the corresponding month of the previous year.

Domestic car sales were down 41.09% to 1,15,957 units as against 1,96,847 units in August 2018, according to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) released on Monday.
Motorcycle sales last month declined 22.33% to 9,37,486 units as against 12,07,005 units a year earlier.
Total two-wheeler sales in August declined 22.24% to 15,14,196 units compared to 19,47,304 units in the year-ago month.

Vehicle sales across categories registered a decline of 23.55 percent to 18,21,490 units from 23,82,436 units in August 2018, it added.
In fact, all vehicle categories witnessed a decline in sales during the month.
