Aadhar is mandatory to attend PM Modi’s event in Patna University

The students of Patna University, who want to attend the event of Prime Minister Narendra Modi must furnish their Aadhaar numbers. The move came after the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences made Aadhaar mandatory for patient admission.

Reportedly, students must fill up an online form available at the website of Patna University to attend the varsity's centenary year celebration, which is on Saturday. The form clearly says they “have to upload the scanned copy of their Aadhaar card and identity card”.

“As per instruction of the district administration, we have decided to limit the number of students at the main venue. Only postgraduate students and research scholars having Aadhaar will be allowed to enter,” said Dolly Sinha, pro-vice-chancellor, Patna University.

According to The Telegraph reports, postgraduate students and research scholars who are associated with some student bodies will be barred from entering because they might create trouble. Undergraduate or former students will not be allowed to attend the event. A few undergraduate students with the National Cadets Corps and National Service Scheme will be allowed in, based on recommendations from their institution/department.

Students are not pleased with the decision of making Aadhar mandatory,

“Prime Minister's security is important, but making Aadhaar the only identity proof for entry is not welcome. Apart from Aadhaar the university identity card should also be considered because many students don't have original Aadhaar cards with them,” said a student.

After instructions from the district administration, the university has decided to limit the number of students at the main venue. At the venue, out of the 4,000 people, only 2,000 will be students.

On the last day of making online applications on Tuesday, around 1,300 students applied for passes. Sources said apart from postgraduate and research scholars, undergraduate students who are NSS or NCC members will get entry provided their respective college or department heads recommend.

Apart from Prime Minister Modi, chief minister Nitish Kumar, deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi, and Union ministers Ram Vilas Paswan, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Upendra Kushwaha, and Ashwini Choubey will attend the function.
