A bid to woo voters by creating Muslim scare in Gujarat?

The battle for votes has intensified in Gujarat and so has the propaganda on social media. A new 1.15 minute video clip has appeared in social media which shows a girl who is scared while walking down a road when there is a call for Namaz in the background.

The clip in the end encourages people to vote for Modi if they want safety and security. There is a statue of Krishna in the background when the girl is talking with her parents clearly indicating that it is a Hindu family.

This video is being seen as a blatant effort to polarise votes in the poll-bound Gujarat. A human rights activist Govind Parmar of Human Rights Law Network (HRLN) has written to Election Commission and Gujarat Police to stop the circulation of this video.

Although no political party is owning the video clip, but as Govind Parmar told Indian Express, “It is clear that the intention of the video is to spread a feeling of fear of Muslims among the majority community members. It has been made to spread hatred towards Muslims, and for polarisation of votes which is an offence.”

Meanwhile The Gujarat Congress IT cell has launched a campaign ‘Gujarat ne daravsho nahi’ (Do not frighten Gujarat) on social media to counter this kind of propaganda.
