Q. How have you struggled to reach this far in the Hindi music Industry?

I did not have to face much difficulties in the beginning as I was selected in the year 2003 for Sa Re Ga Ma Pa directly from Kolkata. After being a runner up, I started working with Shravan ji, Pritam da, Salim Suleiman and others. I had also started doing live events and shows. Hence so far so good, the struggle has been a little less. But struggle is a constant and integral part as far as playback singing for movies is concerned.

Q. How does the music industry treat newcomers? Any particular experience you would like to share?

My initial experience was very good when I came to Mumbai in 2003. I found the music industry welcoming. I had already met the music director Shravan ji, singer Shaan, Pritam ji and Salim Suleiman. Shravanji always treated me as a child. In that sense, I feel super blessed that I did not come across any unpleasant experience or people in this industry.

Q. What do you think about remixes and the culture of remixes?

Personally, I really like the recent remixes because all are upgraded music. Though the old music is always great, but to reach the new generation, I think, moulding them with the music of today is really helpful. And these remixes sound awesome. so I am really liking it.

Q. As a musician What are your aspirations?

Oh, aspirations are many. I really want to perform at Sydney Opera House and I want to perform and travel with my concert in the entire world. Also I want to share the stage with AR Rahman sir soon. I will put all my efforts to record for all the production houses. These are my dreams and I’m going to work extremely hard to achieve all these things.

Q. What kind of music you would like to sing/make and why?

I like all kinds of music. I have learned classical from my childhood and when I shifted to Mumbai, I started learning Bollywood music and Ghazals. I learnt Western music from Samantha. As I said, I like all styles of music as every genre speaks in its own way. But people like me for my powerful voice which is more suitable for Sufi music and I also have found a special liking for it because you can feel the music with your soul. My last single ‘Sanson ki Mala’ is a tribute for the same.
