Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lost thousands of followers on Twitter after the social media platform's strict action against fake profiles in November 2018, according to a Twitter study, Business Standard reported, Modi lost around one lakh followers, said the report on Monday.
The study was conducted by Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology to check the social media patterns between the 2014 and 2019 general elections, said the report, adding that it took into account 925 Indian political handles which included the user accounts of all the main political parties and political figures on the platform.

Apart from PM Modi, Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bhupender Yadav, National General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Anurag Thakur, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on IT also lost a large number of followers on Twitter, said the report.
In July 2018, the social media platform carried out a similar exercise globally in which Modi's follower count came down by 3 lakh
Whereas, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday made her debut on the social media platform with a verified profile and drew more than 88 thousand followers during the day.
Soon after her profile was unveiled, the count of followers surpassed the 20,000 mark and kept surging every minute.
