Republic TV’s Editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami has been called out on Twitter for claiming that the car he was travelling in while covering the religious riots in Gujarat in 2002 was attacked by people wielding “trishuls.”

The vocal anchor is heard saying in a video that he was attacked with trishuls, barely 50 metres from the CM’s residence at the time of Gujarat riots.
“There was nobody from the minority community with us... We had our identity cards and our press cards so we got away,” Goswami says in the video.
Rajdeep Sardesai, Goswami’s colleague in 2002 at NDTV, was quick to point out that Goswami wasn’t the one who covered the communal riots for the broadcaster.

According to Sardesai, the video was recorded in Assam when Congress was in power.
