Since 2003, the Russia's President Vladimir Putin has failed to show up on time for his commitments with important personalities, which include the likes of Queen Elizabeth, former US President Barack Obama, Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel and India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The historic summit between Putin and US President Donald Trump in Helsinki on July 16 was a notable exception though, with the Russian leader arriving at the venue 20 minutes behind schedule. However, that was a one-off instance. Other world leaders haven’t been so lucky. For instance, Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel waited for more than four hours for the Russian leader ahead of one of their meetings in 2014.
In 2014, newly elected India’s PM Modi had to wait for almost an hour before Putin showed up for the first meeting between the two leaders, which happened on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Fortaleza, Brazil.
The information on Putin’s habitual clumsiness has been presented as a graphic, titled Tracking Putin’s Tardiness, by Prague-headquartered broadcaster Radio Free Europe/Liberty.

An analysis of Putin’s meetings with other world leaders has shown that the fourth-term leader is notorious for routinely arriving late for meetings.

*An earlier version of the story said that Putin made Trump wait at the summit meeting in Helsinki. It, however, was the Russian leader who arrived twenty minutes behind schedule for the occasion. The error is regretted and has now been corrected.
