US President Donald Trump was booed as he attended a baseball game of the World Series between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros at Nationals Park, a stone’s throw from the Capitol Hill. As soon as Trump’s face appeared on the giant video screens in the stadium, the boos started ringing out loud. The crowd, in the overwhelmingly democratic state, chanted, “Lock him up”, a reference to the chants about Hillary Clinton used at Trump’s rallies in the run-up to the 2016 presidential elections.

Incidentally, other US presidents like Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon and both the Bushes were also booed while attending baseball games as President. But, what is more embarrassing for Trump is that the POTUS had once claimed that Major League clubs had made a beeline for him in his young, playing days but that none of the offers were big enough. In a 2014 interview at the Economic Club of Washington DC, he had said: “You know I was recruited, and they all wanted me to go in Major League.”

Twitter, as usual, was flooded by the video grab of the moment that cheering turned to booing in the stadium.

Trump left the game before it got over. His wife, Melania, and several Republican politicians including Lindsey Graham, Matt Gaetz and David Perdue were with him.
