West Bengal elections: Vacant chairs, empty ground forced Amit Shah to cancel Jhargram rally, claims TMC

Union Home Minister Amit Shah who was scheduled to address a rally in Jharghram, West Bengal at 11 am on Monday, reportedly cancelled his rally due to poor turn out and lukewarm response from the electorates, claimed TMC.

Sharing photographs and videos on Twitter, Rajya Sabha MP and TMC spokesperson Derek O’Brien took a jibe at Shah, calling him “tourist”.

BJP however contradicted TMC’s claims and said the rally was cancelled due to a “technical snag” in Amit Shah’s chopper.

Hours later Amit Shah posted a tweet with an image of a crowd and wrote: “I apologise to the people of Jhargram for not being able to address the rally in person due to technical snag in my chopper. But I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for turning out in such large numbers. Let Jhargram be the harbinger of change and usher Ashol Poriborton.”

TMC also shared photos from Mamata Banerjee’s rally in Purulia with the caption: “Crowd that doesn’t suffer ‘Technical Snag’. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee welcomed by a sea of crowd in Purulia’s Baghmundi.”

As per BJP’a poll plan, Shah was scheduled to visit Jhargram – an important rural Bengal constituency, to launch a yatra to honour the role of Birsa Munda and other freedom fighters in the fight against British colonial rule.
