Tripura’s health minister Sudip Roy Barman who joined BJP on April 7, 2017 (before the Assembly Election of 2018) leaving Congress along with 6 MLAs and lakhs of supporters and was the chief reason of BJP’s victory in Tripura, has been removed from the ministry, an official notification said.

Barman was not amongst those puppet leaders who tolerated the state government’s biased moves or mismanagement and raised his voice against it.

Recently, a doctor, Dipankar Debnath was beaten by the mob in Tripura. It caused much resentment in the doctors and hospitals of the state as such attacks on doctors are not new in Tripura. Sudip Barman openly and strongly criticised the state Home Department for failing to protects the doctors. “Why is law and order not stable in Tripura? Anyone is taking law in hand……anyone is beating anyone. Recently in a similar attack on a doctor in South Tripura, even after my interference, one culprit was not arrested just because he belonged to the ruling party!” he had said.

At that time, Sudip Roy Barman had surrendered his police escort condemning law and order situation of the state.

In the same manner, Barman courted controversy when he was not seen in BJP’s campaigning in Tripura during Lok Sabha Election.

Finally, as soon as the new Modi Government was formed, Barman was terminated on Friday night. This is bound to create massive turmoil in Tripura BJP as maximum BJP members there are ex-Congress people and Sudip Barman has also been the most popular figure among almost all leaders in BJP.

The fact is, Sudip Barman was the only minister who submitted performance report card two times in last one year and no other minister could do it till date. In this situation there is no valid reason for the state government to sack him “legally”.

However, Barman’s will benefit the BJP or cause a damage to its image, only time will tell.
