Swarajya Editor trolled on Twitter for discovering ‘half-positive’ nuance in the record no. of  jobless

Swarajya Editor R Jagannathan on Thursday was roasted on the micro blogging site for tweeting, “Need to read this number with nuance. A higher unemployment rate indicates that more people are actively looking for work. This is half positive indicating that many millions now believe jobs will be available even if not of satisfactory kind”

This comment by Jagannathan, former editor of DNA and First Post, invited a flood of derisive comments and comic spins. Jagannathan is currently Editorial Director of pro-BJP Swarajya magazine owned by BJP MP Rajeev Chandrashekhar.

Replying to Jagannathan comment, Editorial Director of The New Indian Express and The Sunday Standard, Prabhu Chawla wrote, “I have studied and taught economics for over decade. Among my teachers were Amartya Sen, S. Chakraverty and Jagdish Bhagwati. None of them were aware of such a nuance. Rising number of people looking for jobs means huge gap between demand supply. Simple.”

“A higher poverty rate indicates that more people are actively looking to get out of poverty. This is half positive indicating that many millions now believe they can get out of poverty even if they cannot,” wrote Dhruv Rathee.
