Renowned Marathi, Hindi films and stage actress Ashalata Wabgaonkar passed away after a four-day battle with COVID-19 at a private hospital in Satara. She was 79.

The actress was undergoing treatment at the private hospital in Mumbai, Maharashtra since September 17.
"Her condition worsened on Monday evening and she was put on ventilator support. She breathed her last today morning," a senior doctor from the hospital said.

The actress was in Satara for a shooting. Popularly known as Ashalata, the Goa-born actress had reportedly contracted the infection during the shootings of a teleserial.
She acted in several Marathi and Hindi films, and Marathi plays.
