‘Sunday Navjivan’ commemorative edition celebrating 150 years of Mahatma to be launched

The Associated Journals Limited (AJL), a company founded by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, will launch a commemorative publication to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, at a function, which will be organised at GMADA Sports Complex located in Sector 78, Mohali, on Monday, December 10.

Additionally, All Indian Congress Committee (AICC) President Rahul Gandhi, former Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh and AJL chairman Motilal Vora along with Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh will showcase the Hindi weekly newspaper—Sunday Navjivan— in its latest avatar. The paper was founded by Mahatma Gandhi and Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, 71 years ago.

Sunday Navjivan is currently being published from New Delhi and Panchkula and it hit the stands on October 14, 2018.

Besides Zafar Agha, Editor-in-Chief of National Herald, and Mrinal Pande, Group Senior Editorial Advisor, members of AICC, senior Congress leaders and prominent personalities from Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and other states will attend the function.

The AJL had started publishing daily Navjivan on November 1, 1947.

Akin to National Herald (English) and Quami Awaz (Urdu), Navjivan was also started to promote Mahatma Gandhi’s principles for freedom movement. It was also aimed to encourage Jawaharlal Nehru’s vision of Modern India.

The main objective to state the newspaper was to accelerate creation of democratic, liberal and modern India and to promote social harmony of the Indian freedom movement.

Inspired by the ideas of Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru, Navjivan let its voice to nation building, promoting World peace and rationality.

The paper saw many ups and down since after its launch but the AJL decided to revive the papers in print as well as digital forms in March 2016. The print edition of Sunday Navjivan is available from October 2018, while a website (www.navjivanindia.com) was launched on August 2017, for the Hindi Digital.
