Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Friday hit out at PM Modi for the rising unemployment and destruction of jobs during his tenure and charged him for failing to create new jobs.
“Modi is the first Prime Minister of India under whose administration jobs have been destroyed. History will recall Modi as the job destroyer PM,”said Ramesh, in a press conference, adding that more than one crore people lost their jobs in a year.
Referring to the data collected by Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy in 2018, Ramesh said that due to demonetisation and flawed GST, almost one crore people lost their jobs.

Jairam Ramesh termed Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY) a big failure, and said 90% of the loans issued under the scheme are barely of ₹25,000.
“What employment can a person generate with this amount?” asked Ramesh.
“In 2015, Finance Ministry announced MUDRA scheme with much pomp and show. They claimed that it is a refinancing institution. Later, MSME loans already given by various banks were categorised under this scheme,” he added.
Referring to a reply given by Finance Minister Jaitley in Parliament, the Congress veteran said that when Jaitley was asked how many jobs were created under MUDRA in August 2018, his reply was that no data has been collected by the central government regarding this scheme.
