Notwithstanding the looming economic crisis, rising unemployment and growing social unease over linguistic and cultural issues, the country on Tuesday broke into a rapturous applause (mostly in the virtual world) for Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 69th birthday.
While the social media is full of birthday wishes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi with his fans and admirers flooding it with his praises and “achievements” as country’s PM in the last five years, one of his fans has gone to the extent of calling Modi “Father of Our Country”.

This fan is none other than Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ wife Amruta Fadnavis.
“Wishing the Father of our Country @narendramodi ji a very Happy Birthday - who inspires us to work relentlessly towards the betterment of the society!” she tweeted.
Incidentally, 2019 happens to be the year when India is celebrating 150 years of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary. Mahatma Gandhi is called the ‘Father of the Nation’.
Whether it was in a moment of jubilant excitement that she wrote these lines or Mrs Fadnavis actually considers PM Modi as the reincarnation of Mahatma Gandhi was not immediately clear.

Two years back, Modi’s photo shoot for a government calendar where he posed with a charkha a la Mahatma’s style had created a controversy.
But looks like some people took that pose of Modi a bit too seriously and actually started seeing him in the mould of the Mahatma.
This is besides, of course, the lavish praise for Modi’s “achievements” in the last five years as the country’s prime minister.

However, in the list of these “achievements”, the demonetisation, impact of GST on informal sector, ‘cashless’ economy, the rate of rupee versus US dollar, high oil and cooking gas prices, the promise of creating 2 crore jobs a year, fleeing FDI and a coherent policy on Pakistan, etc are conspicuously missing.
Anyways, we wish our Prime Minister a very happy birthday. All the problems will vanish in a single day with the magic wand PM Modi had given the public to understand he has.
