Amit Shah in Bengal: ‘Infiltrators’ will be identified, Hindus safe from NRC
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday asserted that the Centre will extend the National Register of Citizens (NRC) to West Bengal, but before that the Citizenship (amendment) Bill will be passed to accord Indian citizenship to all Hindu, Sikh, Jain and Buddhist refugees.
“I assure all Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, Jain refugees they won’t have to leave the country, they will get Indian citizenship and enjoy all the rights of an Indian national,” he said.
He said all infiltrators will be identified and forced to leave the country.
In Assam NRC, over 19 lakh people have been excluded, of them around 13 lakh are Hindus. The data raised questions over the BJP’s claims that there were “millions” of Bangladeshi Muslim refugees living in Assam.

The Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections dropped sharply to a 19-month low of Rs 91,916 crore in September, mirroring a widening slowdown in economy triggered by shrinking consumer demand.
This is the second straight month of decline in the GST collections, according to official data released by the finance ministry. The tax collections at Rs 91,916 crore in September was lower than Rs 98,202 crore collected in August and Rs 94,442 crore mop-up in the same month a year back.
GST, which from July 1, 2017, amalgamated 17 different central and state levies, including excise duty, service tax and VAT, is a reflection of economic activity and a decline in collections indicates a downturn.

Fadnavis to face trial for non-disclosure of criminal cases in poll affidavit
In a jolt to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the Supreme Court on Tuesday said the BJP leader will have to face trial for allegedly failing to furnish details of two pending criminal cases in his election affidavit in 2014.
However, the apex court verdict that quashed the Bombay High Court's May 3, 2018 order which gave Fadnavis a clean chit will not come in the way of his contesting the October 21 elections.
The verdict that sparked demands from the opposition NCP for the resignation of Fadnavis came on a day when the BJP announced its list of 125 candidates which included the chief minister who will seek a consecutive fifth term from Nagpur South West.
