Stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui announced on social media today that his upcoming shows in Mumbai have been cancelled.
Faruqui posted, “Upcoming Mumbai shows 29, 30, 31st October 2021 are cancelled. The safety of the audience is what matters most to me. I don’t want my audience to go through what I am experiencing.”
The comedian, who was arrested earlier this year in Indore, had been at the receiving end of threats from the Hindu right-wing. Some people took to Twitter demanding to ban Book My Show for “selling tickets of anti-Hindu comedians”. The hashtag #GoBackMunawar had been trending on the microblogging site in the past week.

Earlier, Faruqui was threatened by Bajrang Dal that he wouldn’t be allowed to perform in Gujarat.
