MP Police arrest Congress spokesperson for putting up ‘Scindia missing’ posters in Gwalior

Madhya Pradesh police have arrested State Congress spokesperson for putting up ‘missing posters’ of BJP leader Jyotiraditya Scindia in his home town Gwalior on Sunday evening.

The Gwalior police arrested Siddharth Singh Rajawat, a Congressman and party spokesperson from Gwalior under section Section 188 ( Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and 505, (1) (C) ( with intent to incite, or which is likely to incite, any class or community of persons to commit any offence against any other class or community) of the IPC, the police said.

Confirming it, Jhansi road Police station in charge, Ramesh Shakya said, “Based on the FIR, the Police have arrested Congress spokesperson Rajawat under section 188 and 505 (1) (C) of the IPC on Sunday evening.”

A poster, having a grim picture of BJP leader Jyotiraditya Scindia with headline ‘Talash, Gumshuda Jan sewak ke’ with a reward of Rs 5,100 cropped up in Gwalior city on Sunday. The poster has mobile number and name of the Congress leader Rajawat. Later the day, Rajawat with other fellow Congressmen distributed the poster and also pasted it in the various properties owned by Scindia in Gwalior.

The poster says, ‘The one who failed to serve people as Congressman. The one who failed to raise the voice of migrant workers during the Covid-19 pandemic. The one who wanted to hit the road against Congress government’s policies, is now missing. The finder will get reward of rewarded with Rs 5,100.

The incident irked the Scindia followers Mohit Jatav and Rahul Goyal and they reported the matter in Jhansiroad police station. Based on complaint, police registered FIR against Congress leader.

Similar posters of Member of Parliament, Sadhvi Pragya in Bhopal, former assembly speaker and Congress leader, NP Prajapati and ex-CM Kamal Nath and MP Nakul Nath cropped up in Chhindawara. The issue grabbed headlines but no case was registered.

Criticising the government for registering the FIR, Congress Spokesperson KK Mishra said, “When similar posters of three Congress leaders including ex CM Nath cropped up, the police turned a blind eye.”

“Why are MP Police maintaining dual standard for the same act? Just like Scindia, the police should also register cases against those who had put up Congress leaders’ posters,” Mishra demanded.
