The Congress government in Madhya Pradesh, which has been facing the farmers’ ire over its delay in loan waiver, is all set to withdraw criminal cases registered against farmers and political workers in the last 15 years.

The government has prepared a bill which it is going to table in the upcoming monsoon session of the assembly starting from July 3. In the first phase, the government is mulling to withdraw cases registered against 7,000 farmers.

In its poll manifesto, the Congress had promised to withdraw all the cases of political vendetta against political leaders as well as farmers who were booked during protests.

Chief minister Kamal Nath had instructed the officials to form a three-member committee to scrutinize and execute the process so that the cases would be withdrawn immediately after the LS elections.

“False cases had been registered during ‘Kisan Andolan’ (farmers’ agitation). The chief minister had formed a three-member committee in each district comprising of district collector, superintendent of police and district prosecutor to scrutinize all such cases and forward them to the home department. Persons named in such cases will be required to file an application to this committee for examination and further action,” minister for higher education, youth welfare and sports, Jeetu Patwari had informed.
