Mayawati states Yogi govt’s “faulty and wrong policies” caused Bulandshahr violence

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Tuesday, December 4, blamed the Uttar Pradesh government for the violence in Bulandshahr which claimed two lives, saying the "lawlessness" in the state was a result of its "faulty and wrong policies".

In a statement, the four-time Chief Minister said that government was now faced with the same mobocracy it inculcated to make political gains over the past many years.

She said that Bulandshahr’s mob violence, in which a police officer and a young man were shot dead, reflected that the state government had lost grip on right wing Hindu cadres which earlier targeted only Dalits, backward castes and Muslims.

Mayawati said that announcing financial assistance to the victims' families was not enough and sought assurance from the Adityanath government that such incidents won't be repeated in the future.

"Killing of (an) inspector and one other person in Bulandshahr violence is due to (the) irresponsible and wrong policies of the state government. Strict action should be taken against those involved in the act so that people can feel that there is a government here. Due to patronising of unscrupulous elements by (the) BJP, there is 'jungle raj' in the state," Mayawati said.

Condoling the death of those who died in the violence, the Dalit leader said there was a need to establish a rule of law to prevent mob attacks.

The violence broke out after the recovery of some animal carcasses that right-wing groups claimed were of cows.

Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh, who had probed the Akhlaq lynching case initially, and a 20-year-old local had died of gunshot injuries on Monday, December 3, as a rampaging mob protesting alleged cow slaughter torched a police post and clashed with the cops, according to police.

On the killing of a BJP leader in Lucknow, Mayawati said the saffron party's leaders were also suffering "due to violent and aggressiveness promoted by (the) BJP".

It seems that the BJP government in the state has failed to discharge its duties, the BSP supremo added.
