Close contest between BJP-Congress in Haryana, NDA takes lead in Maharashtra
The counting for Maharashtra and Haryana Assembly elections is underway on, counting of votes began at 8 am. In Haryana, it is a close contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress. Currently, Bharatiya Janata Party leading on 40 seats, Congress on 31, JJP on 10, INLD on 1 and others on 8 in the 90-member House.
In Maharashtra, BJP-Shiv Sena is leading on 161 seats in the 288-member Assembly. Congress-NCP alliance leads in 99 seats in Maharashtra. Other candidates lead in 30 seats.

BJD's Rita Sahu wins Bijepur bypoll with record margin
Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidate Rita Sahu clinched victory in the Bijepur Assembly bypoll in Odisha's Bargarh district by a record margin of 97,990 votes on Thursday.
The ruling Congress emerged victorious in the bypolls to the Phagwara and Jalalabad assembly segments on Monday. Congress candidate Raminder Awla defeated SAD nominee Raj Singh Dibipura by 16,633 votes from Jalalabad, considered an Akali bastion.

The ruling Congress in Puducherry on Thursday retained the Kamaraj Nagar Assembly seat with its nominee A John Kumar emerging victorious in the by-poll, defeating his nearest AINRC rival S Bhuvaneswarane by a margin of 7,170 votes.
While John Kumar, a confidante of Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, polled 14,782 votes out of the total 24,310 polled in the by-election held on October 21, the AINRC nominee secured 7,612 votes.

Haryana will not tolerate BJP's misgovernance any more, says Kumari Selja
The people of Haryana had rejected the ruling BJP and was ready to "embrace a new dawn of justice", state Congress chief Kumari Selja said on Thursday as trends showed no clear winner.
The BJP was leading in 38 seats and the Congress in 31 in trends available for the 89 of the 90 seats. The Jannayak Janta Party was ahead in 11 seats and could emerge kingmaker.
"Haryana has given the verdict- it will not tolerate @BJP4Haryana's misgovernance any more. Choosing to leave behind the maladies inflicted on its people in last 5years,the state is ready to embrace a new dawn of justice & equality under the leadership of @INCHaryana," Selja tweeted
