A week before the first phase of the upcoming Lok Sabha is set to begin, the Congress launched its campaign slogan ‘Ab Hoga Nyay’ (now there will be justice) along with a song. The song was penned by Javed Akhtar and the campaign video has been filmed by Nikkhil Advani.

The slogan draws on the Manifesto’s promise of the minimum income guarantee or Nyuntam Aay Yojana which will set out to transfer ₹72,000 annually, to five crore poor families.

The Congress party Manifesto 2019 launched on April 2, also aimed at increasing rural employment under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee (MNREGA) scheme and introducing a simplified GST, among many other themes.

Congress Publicity Committee chairman, Anand Sharma said, “We are seeking justice or Nyay against the injustices committed in the past four years. Those who promised Acche Din only delivered anyay (injustice).”

He also said, “Our campaign doesn’t not focuses on income guarantee alone. It is about ensuring nyay to farmers, nyay to youth, nyay to entrepreneurs.”

The Congress party launched its slogan on its official Twitter handle with a series of images where Congress President Rahul Gandhi can be seen interacting with farmers, traders, children and youngsters. The Congress highlighted lyrics of the song, which incorporated the party's core promises.

The party asked it’s members and workers from across the country to send in their own thoughts and possible taglines for the 2019 poll campaign. They received almost 15 lakh responses, which they went through before making their pick.
