According to the latest results of a NITI Aayog ranking, there are stark differences in the school system of India, reported The Hindu. Among 20 large States, Kerala got a quality score of a 76.6%, while Uttar Pradesh came in last with a score of just 36.4%.
The School Education Quality Index by NITI Aayog is a measuremenr index that evaluates the States with respect to three major categories of learning outcomes, access and equity outcomes; and infrastructure and facilities outcomes. It does so by using survey data, self-reported data from States and third-party verification.

This year, Tamil Nadu did the best in the access and equity outcomes, Karnataka in the learning outcomes and Haryana in the infrastructural department. Kerala however, did the best in the aggregate of all outcomes, with a whopping score of 76.6%.

However, UP’s state is not all bad since it is one of the three states who have shown the most growth, since they have done significantly better than 2015-16. Haryana, Assam and Uttar Pradesh showed the most improvement in their performance in 2016-17, in comparison to the base year of 2015-16.

Among smaller States, Manipur emerged as the best performer, while Chandigarh topped the list of Union Territories. West Bengal refused to participate in the evaluation process and has not been included in the rankings.
