IUML protests on lynchings, NRC and more at Jantar Mantar

Attacking the BJP and RSS for dividing the country, leaders of Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) said that BJP was responsible for vitiating the atmosphere in the country through mob lynching and National Register of Citizens in Assam.

IUML Lok Sabha MP ET Mohammad Basheer criticised the BJP government at the centre for not enacting a stringent law to check the menace of mob lynching. He was speaking at a protest organised by IUML in the Capital to highlight the atrocities against Muslims in the country.

“The Supreme Court of India had stated that a law should be made by the Parliament to prevent it. Unfortunately, the government has not come forward to make such a stringent legislation. This is one of the reasons for repeat of such kind of things. The government should take some bold stand on it. On the other hand, what they are doing is that they take at as an easy thing. In a way this is a government-engineered thing happening in our country,” underscored Basheer, who represents Kerala’s Ponnani constituency.

He said the incidents of lynching are happening without any brake “because of the wrong policies of the government.” Basheer added that the BJP and RSS members behave as though they have a license to break the law and do whatever they want.

The protest at Jantar Mantar saw people who had come in from various parts of the country. Denouncing the NRC process in Assam, Malppuram Lok Sabha MP PK Kunhalikutty said, “The NRC process in Assam was done to hound the Muslims. It was to ensure that Muslims are stripped of their citizenship. They want to create another class of citizens.”

“RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said that Hindus out of 19 lakh excluded from the NRC in Assam should be accepted as citizens of India. By saying such thing, he is creating division in the society. Aren’t we born and brought up in India? Muslims sacrificed for India and laid down their lives to protect the land and borders of the country. What are you going to do with the 20 crore Muslim population,” said IUML president KM Kader Mohideen.
