Hyderabad students call for demonstration on Saturday after being denied permission

A large number of students from Hyderabad Central University, TISS Hyderabad, Maulana Azad National Urdu University and Osmania University were detained on Thursday from the Exhibition Ground, Nampally when they were protesting against the amended citizenship law and the NRC.

Abhishek Nandan, HCU student union president said, “We sat outside the police station, held placards, sang songs and read the preamble.”

“We only carried out peaceful protests, I don’t know why the government and police detained us,” he added.

Nandan claimed that police had first given permission for the protests the day before, but withdrew it on Thursday morning.

“It was only at 8 30 in the morning today that the police suddenly refused permission and informed that the earlier permission had been revoked. By then the protests were already organised and we decided to go ahead with it,” he said.

Soon after the detained students were released late on Thursday afternoon, they gave a call for a demonstration on Saturday against the KCR government for not letting the students protest.

Students from across Telangana have called for a huge agitation against the Bill which they say divides the country, its secular values and goes against the Constitution.
