Home Minister’s statement in Parliament that nobody was under house arrest in J&K not true: Saifuddin Soz

Former Union Minister Prof. Saifuddin Soz on Friday said that the tabling of information in the Parliament by Home Minister Amit Shah that nobody was under house arrest in J&K UT was not true since he himself had been under house arrest since August 5, 2019, the day when Article 370 of the Constitution of India was abrogated.

“There are many more from the mainstream Kashmir, who have been under house arrest since then,” he said in a statement.

“During all this period, I visited Delhi for two days for medical advice. I had visited my ailing sister in Srinagar twice with permission of the J&K Police, who took me from my residence in their vehicle with the escort and got me back to my residence. That I am a free man, is a white lie!” he added.

“It shows the present day dispensation at the Centre has no respect for the Constitution of India, which enshrines the provision for protection of civil liberties in India,” he said.

“The most tragic aspect of the incarceration of political class in Kashmir is that the police personnel at the lowest rung have only to follow verbal instructions of the bosses, all the time. The word of mouth reigns the roost,” he added.
