Harvard alum write to PM Modi, ask him to release Shah Faesal, other leaders

Members of student, faculty and alumni of the prestigious Harvard University have written a letter to the Government of India, asking it to reconsider the detention of Shah Faesal on Wednesday in Srinagar.

Shah Faesal was sent back from Delhi airport on Tuesday to Srinagar and he was later detained under the Public Safety Act. Faesal was going to Istanbul before he was sent back from the airport. Faesal who had spoken about the Kashmir lock down and said this was “unprecedented”.

The letter mentions about the arrests of the local Kashmir leaders as well. The Modi government repealed the special status of the state of Jammu and Kashmir by abrogating the articles 370 and 35A from the Constitution of India.

Faesal rose as a political entity after he resigned from the Indian Administration Service (IAS).

The letter also shows concern about the current situation in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The letter advised the government to find a democratic and a peaceful way to ensure stability in the region.
