FIR against Amish Devgan for derogatory remarks against Sufi saint Khwaja Gareeb Nawaz Moinuddin Chishti

A first information report has been filed against News18 anchor Amish Devgan for his derogatory remarks against revered Sufi saint Moinuddin Chishti commonly known as Hazrat Khwaja Ghareeb Nawaz

A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against News18 anchor Amish Devgan for his derogatory remarks against Hazrat Khwaja Ghareeb Nawaz.

The anchor during a show that was aired on June 16 referred to the revered Saint Chishti as Lutera Chishti.

Later on Tuesday, Amish Devgan issued an apology on Twitter and said that he had mistakenly referred to ‘Khilji’ as ‘Chishti’, and said that he also has visted the Dargah for the saint’s blessings.

It’s important to mention here that Khwaja Gareeb Nawaz is revered not only by one particular community but has devotees across all the faiths in the world.

Reacting over the incident, Raza Academy lodged a complaint against the anchor and demanded FIR against him.

In Hyderabad too, complaint has been lodged against the anchor in Bahadurpura Police Station.

The famous Ajmer Sharif Dargah is a Sufi shrine of the revered Sufi saint Moinuddin Chishti popular as Hazrat Khwaja Ghareeb Nawaz.

The anchor’s remark caused a furor on Twitter. The netizens reacted sharply and accused Devgan of abusing a centre of faith for centuries beyond religious boundaries. #ArrestAmishDevgan has been trending on Twitter.

According to History, Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti was a 13th-century Sufi mystic saint and philosopher who travelled across South Asia, before eventually settling in Ajmer, where he died.

After his death in 1236, the Sultan of Delhi (Tughluq dynasty) constructed a Dargah (a commemoration structure constructed around the tomb of Muslim saints, where people from all religions come to pray and ask for fulfilment of wishes) that grew in popularity and size over the years.
