Delhi Police seize 330 kg of Heroin this week alone during ongoing crackdown

The Special Cell of Delhi Police seized 260 jute bags containing 130 kg of soaked and dried Afghan heroin from a container from Navi Mumbai on 26thJuly.

"Total recoveries in ongoing operation now exceed 330 kg with a street value of about ₹1,320 crore," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Manishi Chandra as per reports.

The Delhi-based head of the ring and an Afghan national from Kandahar, have been arrested.

The consignment originated from Herat in Afghanistan and was smuggled to Mumbai via Bandar Abbas in Iran by sea under the cover of a basil seed consignment.

In the past week alone, there have been multiple arrests in Delhi and Haryana and copious amounts of afghan origin heroin has been seized by police.

The first arrest was made on 19thJuly, Delhi Police busted a drug racket and arrested five persons, including two Afghan nationals, from south Delhi's Zakir Nagar. 150 kgs of Afghan heroin valued at ₹600 in the international market was seized.

Shinwari Rehmat, 30, and Akhtar Mohammad Shinwari, 31, were the Afghan nationals, while their other accomplices identified as Vakeel Ahmed, 36, Raees Khan, 43, and Dheeraj, 21, worked for them in Delhi.

Since then, more arrests have been made and drugs have been located. The Special Cell of the Delhi Police seized 50 kilograms of Afghan heroin from a cold storage located in Kundli, Sonepat, Haryana on 23rd July. The consignment had reportedly entered India through the Wagah-Attari border in Punjab.The cost of the drug was stated to be around ₹200 crore.

According to the Special Cell operatives, 102 cartons of raisins had 204 polypacks of heroin concealed between the cardboard layering. Two more Afghan nationals - one from Kandahar and the other from Helmand - were arrested.

These arrests are part of an ongoing crackdown on the drugs by the police hoping to curb their import to India and increase security on the issue.
