Delhi police puts Delhi Congress chief Anil Chaudhary under house arrest

A day after, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi met fleeing migrants in Delhi, Delhi Police has put DPCC chief Anil Chaudhary, under house arrest on Sunday

A day after, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi met fleeing migrants in Delhi, the Delhi Police which comes under the Ministry of Home Affairs, has put the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) chief Anil Chaudhary, under house arrest on Sunday.

The DPCC chief was among the Congress volunteers who accompanied Rahul Gandhi during his interaction with migrant workers near the Sukhdev Vihar flyover on Saturday.

Taking to Twitter, Chaudhary posted in Hindi: “Police has detained me at my residence. I don’t know why. I will let you know the reason as soon as I am given one.”

However, the police claimed, “He brought a number of migrants labourers to Delhi-UP border both yesterday and today. No social distancing being maintained. This could lead to further problems.”

Anil Chaudhary, was appointed as DPCC president in March, almost a month after his predecessor Subhash Chopra resigned in the wake of the party’s defeat in the Delhi Assembly polls.

Congress sources told NH that Chaudhary was detained for helping migrants which is causing heartburn at the BJP government.

Notably, the Delhi Congress has opened its office for the migrants, and has arranged 50-bed temporary shelter at the party office near ITO.

DPCC has claimed that migrants returning to their home states were provided shelter at the party office. On Saturday, Chaudhary visited various entry and exit point of Delhi where party has deployed teams to help and ferry migrants to the DPCC office.
