Cyclone Gaja centred over Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm and cross Tamil Nadu coast between Pamban and Cuddalore on Thursday evening or night, November 15, the Met said.
In the the India Meteorological Department (IMD) bulletin it was stated the cyclone was moving at 14 kmph centring over east-northeast of Nagapattinam at 5.30 am. The wind speed is predicted to be about 80-90 kmph gusting at 100 kmph,
Gaja is likely to move west-south-westwards and traverse between the coasts of Pamban and Cuddalore.

The coasts have been evacuated and a 24-hour suspension of fishing and other sea related activities have been imposed. Educational institutions have been instructed to remain shut in Tamil Nadu district of Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Ramanathapuram and Pudukottai and Karaikal district of Puducherry.
Tamil Nadu government have been assured by telecommunication companies to have oilstocked for a minimum of five days in the Affected regions and for 15 days at their headquarters. Further telephone companies have also taken precautions assuring movement of their mobile telecom towers or cell on wheels to Nagapattinam and Cuddalore.
The state government, arrangements have been made to send bulk SMS to mobile subscribers warning about the weather issued by have the emergency control centres.
