Aiming to return to power in Uttar Pradesh, electorally one of the most crucial states in the country, the Congress party launched a massive farmers awareness campaign in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.
The Uttar Pradesh unit of the Congress party has announced its plans to reach out to over 2 crore farmers through 800 demonstrations, 900 press conferences and scores of street assemblies.

Addressing the media at Lucknow, chief of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee, Ajay Kumar Lallu attacked Yogi government for failing to protect farmers’ interest.
Saying that Congress party under the leadership of Priyanka Gandhi will have a dialogue with over 55 lakh farmers, Lallu added, “25 thousand Congress activists will start a door-to-door contact campaign in the coming time. We will ask farmers to fill out demand forms with their name, address and problems faced by them.”

“Between Feb 17 to Feb 23, activists of the Congress party will organise thousands of street assemblies across the state to protest anti-farmers policies of the Yogi government,” he added.
Asserting that the Congress party will ‘expose’ the Yogi government in its 40-day-long campaign, Lallu said while farmers were facing the menace of stray cattle, Yogi government was busy making false promises.

Lallu highlighted that the present government had spoken about taking back all farming loans within 14 days of coming to power but even two-and-a-half years later, nothing had been done in this direction.
