Electronic Voting Machines used in the last phase of polling had been sealed, counted, numbered and shifted to designated strong rooms and counting centres by late evening on Monday. But suspicious movement of vehicles and trucks loaded with EVM’s were found entering the premises on Monday afternoon at various places, leading to agitation by opposition workers.
“BJP is losing heavily in Ghazipur and is now trying to steal the election,” alleged Umar Ansari over the phone. While workers of the opposition alliance, he complained, were not allowed to maintain their vigil outside the counting centre, vehicles with BJP flags and tinted glasses were allowed to freely move in and out of the centre the whole day.
“Central forces were not there. And no security check was conducted. The last straw was when a mini truck arrived this evening with either EVM machines or with boxes used to keep the machines,” he informed. The word spread and soon several thousand workers assembled to demand EVM security and stop possibility of rigging.

The truck was eventually forced to go back following protests. But agitated workers were still waiting at midnight demanding better security and deployment of central forces.
