Chinmayanand Case: How the hapless student was caught in torturous trap of harassment

In an interview with Indian Express, the law student from Shahjahanpur, who has accused Chinmayanand of sexual harassment comes out with some gruesome details. She said she has at least 35 such evidences to convince the law that Chinmayanand is indeed guilty of sexually harassing her. The woman has told Indian Express that she wore glasses every time she was called by Chinmayanand into his room for “maalish”.

According to Indian Express, It all started with her wanting to pursue LLM, when she missed the last date for the payment of fees. She didn’t know who Chinmayanand was then, in 2018, but she approached him with this issue of hers, and her admission was ensured. But, she later started getting calls to work at the college library for a stipend. Eventually, she said, her work started spilling over to late hours, and she was advised to move into the hostel.

The woman claimed that she realised later that the hostel did not have a warden. “It was there that the first video of mine was made, I do not know how, while I was taking a bath, in October last year. I was then blackmailed to visit Chinmayanand at his residence, where I was raped and another video of mine was made. With a threat to make these videos public, I was harassed for about a year till I decided that I had had enough.”

For this year, she said she had men outside her room all the time, spying on her and not letting her speak with other students so that she is never able to reveal anything to anybody. These men used to take her to Chinmayanand’s room, and the whole college knew about it. Nobody could speak up against him, or for her since everybody was scared of his political powers. Then she thought of teaching them a lesson through their own methods, by using hidden videos.

Since she was not allowed to carry mobile phones or any such other medium with which she could collect evidence, she chose to go with a spectacle, which she could wear, but nobody would be suspicious. The Special Investigation Team, which took her to the room as part of its investigations on September 13, has sought proof of the purchase of the spectacles, and she said she would soon provide it.

After collecting enough evidence to strongly place these allegations on Swami Chinmayanand she decided to run away and send a message to everybody such that she would garner a lot of support against this man, who allegedly used his powers against her.

She told her college superiors she was going home for a day; then took help from friends and kept moving from state to state, first to Delhi and then to Rajasthan.

According to Indian Express, She added that she expects her fight to be long. “They are free to make all the allegations they want against me, but I have evidence… Meri to zindagi barbaad kar di (My life has been destroyed), I am doing this at the cost of my name, but I just want to ensure that the life of no other girl or boy is destroyed… Maalish to yeh karwana bhool jayega (He will never target anyone else).”
