Celebrities from entertainment world speak firmly against Citizenship Amendment Bill, will Modi govt listen?

Controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) which the BJP ruled Centre is so eager to implement not only met with stiff opposition and uproar before being passed in the Lok Sabha, scientists, scribes and celebrities too are speaking up against it. Several Bollywood personalities took to Twitter to oppose the Bill before the debate on it started in the Rajya Sabha.

Actress Pooja Bhatt was among the first Bollywood personalities who openly expressed their opinion against the CAB. She quoted American intellectual and sociologist, DaShanne Stokes: If you won't stand up against those who tear us apart with their lies, hate, and bigotry, expect to do a lot of sitting down.”

When the introduction of the Bill in Lok Sabha was favoured by 293 áyes’ against 82 ‘Noes’, actress Richa Chaddha succinctly wrote: God Save Us!

Actress-turned-author Twinkle Khanna was more direct in her criticism saying “Discrimination based on race, colour, caste, religion and other such social constructs in whatever form, goes against the fundamental moral integrity of the human condition.” Though she did not mention the CAB in her tweet.

Actress Swara Bhaskar said she doesn’t want her tax money to be wasted on such a ‘sick’ project:

Film director Anubhav Sinha admired the patience of Indian Muslims and said ‘this too shall pass’.

Actor Siddharth criticised Palanisami for supporting the CAB and said had Jayalalithaa been there, she would never have supported the Bill:
