Arrested J&K DSP Davinder Singh was building his house beside Srinagar army base

The Deputy Superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Davinder Singh, who was arrested on Saturday at Mir Bazar in Kulgam district while ferrying two Hizbul Mujahideen militants, was constructing his palatial house beside the Srinagar’s army base in Indira Nagar locality, according to a report published in India Today. The Srinagar army base has been counted as one of the most secure zones in the region.

The headquarters of the 15 Corps and the lavish mansion of the DSP share a boundary wall and, according to The Tribune, before leaving for Jammu with two Hizbul Mujahideen militants, Davinder Singh gave shelter to them for a night at his under-constructed house.

Singh and the group of three were allegedly involved in a terrorist operation, consisting of a terrorist, Naveed Baba, who was a banned Hizbul Mujahideen militant, his commander and a lawyer.

For the past five years, Singh had been living in a rented house which belonged to his relatives. The police have recovered arms and ammunition during a raid from this rented house.

The DSP has three children who are studying in Bangladesh and Kashmir.

The senior police officer was posted with the anti-aircraft hijacking wing in Jammu and Kashmir during the arrest when he was ferrying a lawyer and terrorists from the Valley to Delhi, allegedly to carry out a terror strike at the Republic Day function, a police official said.

He was under the police’s scanner since the plan was hatched for smuggling out the terrorists. His involvement was also probed during the 2001 Parliament attack investigations but the verdict came in his favour.
