Amethi: Residents ask ‘Gujarati Irani’ to go back

Union Minister Smriti Irani is scheduled to hold a public meeting at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Gauriganj on Monday, November 19. She is scheduled to lay foundation stones and dedicate 10 projects worth crores of rupees in Amethi.

Prior to Union Minister Smriti Irani’s arrival in Amethi, several posters have been pasted across the city saying, “Gujarati Irani, Wapas jao” (Gujarati Irani, go back).

The posters have been put across the city to protest the atrocities on North Indians in Gujarat. These posters against Smriti Irani have been pasted around Gauriganj city, Shamimandi, Satya Overbridge, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Collectorate.The posters say, “when you are not with North Indians, then you have no right to come to North India (Amethi).”

According to a news report in Dainik Jagran, these posters have been pasted by Jai Singh Pratap Yadav, a member of the State Executive Committee of the Samajwadi Students Union.

Several protests against the BJP leaders over the violence on North Indians in Gujarat were reported in the month of October.

In October, many posters were pasted across the city of Varanasi, which said ‘Gujarati Narendra Modi, Varanasi choro’ (Gujarati Narendra Modi, leave Varanasi). These posters were put up by the Uttar Pradesh Bihar Ekta Manch.

At that time, several posters of Union Minister Smriti Irani were also smudged with black ink, ahead of a programme in Gopalganj, Bihar.
