After Delhi police denial, Students, PG owners confirm police asked to close PGs and coaching centres

A video has gone viral on social media of Delhi Police officials asking students in Mukherjee Nagar to vacate their hostels from December 25 to January 2 and return home. Delhi police have termed the video as fake

According to a report in Times Now, residents and owner of coaching institutes confirmed that some police officials has asked them to close coaching centres and vacate hostels.

Residents stated that police have cited it as a safety measure and also in view of protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act.

Some students took to Twitter on Wednesday to ask for help.

“Sir I am from Bihar presently preparing for competitive exams at Mukherjee Nagar , Pg owners are forcing students to go home Sir please do something,” wrote a student. Another student from Bihar also alleged that he was being evicted from his paying guest accommodation.

In the viral video, ACP, Model Town, Ajay Kumar can be seen instructing students to vacate the area citing law and order situation.

Towards the end of the video, Kumar also said that action will be taken if no one is found complying with the order.

Pictures of the notice pasted on the institutes in the Mukherjee Nagar area are also going viral.

However, Delhi Police is claiming that the video and photos are fake and doctored.

According to DCP North West Vijyanta Arya, "We have registered case against fake messages (of Police shutting down coaching centres in Mukherjee Nagar) being circulated on social media and also writing to the social media platform to remove the video as its content has been edited."

Arya further added that no instruction has been given by the Delhi Police to arrest anyone. Reportedly, the Delhi Police has registered a case at Mukherjee Nagar police station with the fake pamphlet that went viral.

According to the reports, they are also writing to Twitter to block few accounts circulating fake message of vacating Mukherjee Nagar till January 2.
