5 kg of RDX seized from near a village located on the Indo-Pak border in Amritsar

With the state heading towards Assembly elections, anti-national forces seem to have yet again started raising their ugly heads to disturb peace and harmony of the border state of Punjab.

The Special Task Force (STF) of Punjab police on Friday seized about 5 kg of RDX from near the Indo-Pak border in Dhanoe Kalan village near Attari in Amritsar district.

AIG Raspal Singh claimed that during a routine search their team recovered a suspected bag containing cash of Rs 1 lakh and certain other items.

"Actually there were inputs on smuggling of drugs, certain ammunition and explosives but after a proper search we found RDX worth 5kgs, cash and other items dumped in the bag," he claimed, adding that further investigations have been initiated by the authorities concerned.

After registering a case in this context, the STF has detained several suspects for questioning, sources revealed.

On Thursday the Police had recovered 2.5-kg RDX, a detonator, codex wire, five explosive fuses, 12 live cartridges of AK-47 assault rifle from Gurdaspur.

Director General of Punjab Police (DGP) VK Bhawra on Thursday had said, “The recovery was made on the disclosure statement of accused Amandeep Kumar, alias Mantri of Lakhanpal village in Gurdaspur, who is the prime accused in the two recent incidents of grenade attacks in Pathankot.”

Mantri was among the six operatives of the ISYF arrested by SBS Nagar Police on January 10, who confessed to have carried out two grenade attacks in Pathankot, including one at the Pathankot Army camp. The police had also recovered six hand-grenades (86 P), a pistol (9mm), a rifle (.30 bore) along with live bullets and magazines from their possession.

The Director General of Police had said the consignment was provided by Pakistan-based chief of ISYF Lakhbir Singh Rode to Amandeep through his handler, Sukhpreet Singh alias Sukh of Kharal village, in Dinanagar in Gurdaspur district.

Ahead of the Republic Day function, an unattended bag containing an IED device was found at Ghazipur flower market in the National Capital on Friday morning. The device was later defused.
