100 year old historic Juloos-e-Amari not to be held in Jaunpur amid COVID-19 fears

The famous Juloos-e-Amari procession of Baragaon in Jaunpur district will not be held in 2020, said President of Husaini Mission, Syed Waseem Haider in a press statement. Juloos-e-Amari is held on 8th Rabi Awwal according to Hijri calendar corresponding to October 25 or October 26 this year depending upon the sighting of the moon.

In view of the corona pandemic and in consonance with the advisory of His Eminence Grand Ayatollah Sistani Saheb the instructions of medical experts and Government guidelines will be strictly adhered to.

The decision has been taken to avoid huge gatherings that will surely descend on the village if the procession is held.

“It is a very painful decision for me in particular that we have to take in view of the pandemic as all options to hold this procession remain out of bound,” read the press statement.

President of Husaini Mission said that they tried working out various proposals but were unable to finalise one. “We worked on various alternative proposals, but were unable to finalise even one, as the attachment of both, Muslims and Hindus of the area with the procession is so enormous, that there was no guarantee that the crowd convergence in the village will not cross 5,000 even with all possible controls in place,” he said.

“The rising instances of corona in eastern part of Uttar Pradesh and resultant corona deaths have also contributed to the decision making.” he added.

He also appealed to the people to remain at home as per the advisory issued by Marja Ayatollah Sistani Saheb and the Government.

“InshaAllah, next year, we will assemble with more than double the numbers, to pay our homage and tribute to the family of the Holy Prophet on the tragedy of Karbala in this historic procession as we hope that by that time corona will no more be a threat. Till then, I sincerely request you all to do sabr and pray for each other in these trying times,” the statement read.
